Lead Safe Cleveland

HEALTH POLICY

Addressing Cleveland’s lead crisis

Approximately 25 percent of children in Cleveland have an elevated blood lead level before entering kindergarten. Lead poisoning can result in a number of long-term consequences, including intellectual and developmental delays, reduced academic performance, and increased risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and poor maternal and infant health outcomes. Recognizing the need for action, the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation helped launch the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition, a public-private partnership aimed at improving housing conditions at-scale and protecting families from lead exposure.
